Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1 DNS resolver for the public 2019-11-09. A few things to know about it:
Speed: The fastest DNS resolver in the world, powered by the Cloudflare global network.
Privacy: Cloudflare makes some strong promises here, and doesn’t log your IP address at all (some info is logged, but not in regards to your IP, as it collects it for debugging). There’s a strong commitment to transparency with their own regular reports on how they’re being used.
Security: 1.1.1.1 uses DNS over HTTPS (DoH) and DNS over TLS (DoT) to encrypt DNS queries, making snooping and man-in-the-middle attacks impossible.
Ease of Use: It can be set up on nearly any device or router. Cloudflare also has an app for mobile devices, called 1.1.1.1: Faster Internet, that makes setup easier.
Additional Features:
WARP (an add-on of 1.1.1.1, which even more recently is a VPN-like service that sends your Internet traffic through Cloudflare’s network for an extra protective and speed layer [but then was decoupled to its own product]).
DNSSEC is used to validate the responses from DNS.
IP Addresses: This service has 4 addresses, in fact:
1.1.1.1
1.0.0.1 (IPv4)
2606:4700:4700::1111 (IPv6)
2606:4700:4700::1001 (IPv6)
Add Cloudflare DNS servers in your network settings or router configuration for faster DNS resolutions and increased privacy. And keep in mind that manipulating DNS settings may impact network services that rely on local DNS settings and/or specific DNS protocols not implemented by 1.1.1.1.
